Brisbane Creative Industries

BCI EVENTS

Brisbane Creative Industries November

During August (particularly late August) and throughout September the main focus was on festivals.  There was the Queensland Poetry Festival, the Brisbane Writers Festival, Valley Fiesta, the Brisbane Festival...and more festivals poured (as well as a heap of rain) at October and November including the Brisbane International Film Festival, Live to Shine Festival, and 2high Festival at the Brisbane Powerhouse.

The main focus for last month was design within the framework of collaboration, community and sustainability. We looked at the works from local, national and international zones and also from the creative minds of various emerging and established creative industries professionals.   Design is explored from various new and fresh perspectives last month through two big design events in this month's calendar - Unlimited AP and Optimism.

I will be flying off on a trip from November until February 2011 so it will be a while until we send out the next installment.  I would like to introduce Sarah Jansen to the BCI family as she will be taking care of the online presence.  Brisbane Creative Industries is also a proud industry supporter of the November 18 iXmas event!  See below or click here to register and we'll see you again in 2011!

Brisbane Creative Industries: Best of 2010!

I have decided to compile a long list of entries online.  I want to give you a snapshot of what a year's worth of work looks like but these are just a reflection of the many events, projects and individuals who have help make things happen in Brisbane.  Reasons for choosing these entries varied.  They may be inspirational, informative or insightful.  Or they just remind me of some awesome moments that have happened this year.

I hope that you take some time to peruse through some of the best of this year's entries.  Is there something that you would like to see happen in Brisbane?  I want to compile an 'inspiration' entry of some sort - something to help kick start 2011 with some dream jobs that we want to do, awesome people that we want to inspire or projects that we want to see happening.  They'll be published in the first Brisbane Creative Industries 2011 Enews - so tweet them out or email info@briscreativeindustries.com!

November BCI Promos

Win one of five double passes to see THE LOVED ONES.  To enter, check out the description below:

The wait is almost over - from award winning Director Sean Byrne, THE LOVED ONES is a modern, sexy, fun, relentlessly attacking pop-horror nightmare that takes the conventions of the genre then runs them off the rails.

BRENT (Xavier Samuel) has never recovered from the night of the car crash that killed his father; the crash that he was responsible for. His only solace is his loving girlfriend HOLLY (Victoria Thaine). But there’s another girl who yearns to comfort Brent, the quietest girl in school LOLA (Robin McLeavy), and when he turns down her invitation to the prom he enters a nightmare beyond imagining. Hours before the dance, Brent is abducted and taken to Lola’s home by her demented DADDY (John Brumpton) who’s determined to make his princess' dream come true. Now imprisoned in Lola’s home Brent discovers that her feelings for him aren’t the only thing she’s been keeping a secret, and that he must summon every ounce of will he possesses if he is to survive and prevent Lola and her father from extending her revenge to those he loves most.

IN CINEMAS November 4th from Madman Entertainment.
