Brisbane Creative Industries November
Another HUGE issue with big thanks to those who have provided the time to talk about what they do - from Hoodlum right through to Josh Donellan. We also have been looking into video content with Kelly Chapman of KCDC sharing hey keynote with us and the Gold Coast Film Fantastic updating us about their trailers.
We have a lot of material up about 2high Festival and will continue to publish more in the next two weeks so make sure that you free up November 13 and 14 to attend this festival!
Keep a look out for a mention on Brisbane Creative Industries in the book and project, Young People Creating Queensland, alongside other great projects that are currently shaping the state. I will also be announcing the Sydney Creative Industries and Melbourne Creative Industries calendars late 2009 so please watch this space!

Hope that you all have a great November,
Hannah Suarez

What is 2high Festival?
Coordinated by a team of young dynamic arts enthusiasts, 2high Festival provides an unprecedented showcase opportunity for the highest calibre of emerging creatives and arts exploration. "2high Festival pushes the boundaries. It is about touching art and being touched by art."
2high Festival was founded in 1993 when Susan Richer, former Artistic Director of Backbone Youth Arts, recognised that there was a lack of women holding key decision making roles in the cultural industries. These days many movers and shakers in the arts world are women and as such, in 2007, the festival evolved to include both young men and women as event coordinators.
Evolving is what 2high Festival does best and across sixteen years the event has morphed into the beast it is today – an unprecedented showcase opportunity for the highest calibre of Queensland’s emerging artists and producers.
The meaning behind the festival’s name is a short, sharp way of describing the festival process itself. Taken from a circus move called ‘two high’ where a performer stands on another’s shoulders, the move is an analogy for the mentoring aspect which is central to 2high Festival; each year the festival is organised by a group of young coordinators aged 18 – 26 who work with industry mentors and Backbone Youth Arts to deliver all aspects of the event. ‘Two high’ is also a metaphor for the enhanced ability to see ahead that someone gains from a raised vantage point. This foresight is something that 2high Festival prides itself on through showcasing the next wave of arts experiences and arts practitioners in this state.
2high Festival found itself at its current home of Brisbane Powerhouse in 2007, a venue synonymous with the kind of relevant arts experiences that 2high Festival prides itself on. The festival’s online presence has also blossomed since its inception in 2008 and we’re proud to see that, in its momentous 16th year, the festival is once again reaching onwards and upwards.
Join this creative playground on November 13 & 14 to feel art, performance and music that breathes from the walls, leaps from the floors and speaks to your heart. This year promises to be the most inspiring festival yet and we are happy to report it’s still completely free.
